И Русия действително отправи малка заплаха онзи ден, когато заяви, че ще възнамерява да провежда определени видове изпитания на различно ниво. Но Русия провежда изпитания. И Китай наистина провежда изпитания, и ние също ще ги провеждаме“, каза Тръмп.
Той допълни, че според него Северна Корея и Пакистан също извършват подземни ядрени тестове, въпреки международните ограничения и санкции.

Тръмп защити позицията си с аргумента, че Съединените щати трябва да поддържат и проверяват собствените си ядрени арсенали.
„Ние имаме най-добрите (ядрени оръжия) и именно аз бях този, който ги обнови и изгради за четири години (от първия ми президентски мандат). И ненавиждах да правя това, защото дори не искам да говоря за разрушителната им способност“, заяви той.
Президентът подчерта, че изпитанията са необходими за гарантиране на надеждността на оръжията. „Ако ги имаме (арсенали от ядрени оръжия), тогава трябва да ги тестваме, в противен случай ще бъде неизвестно как ще работят. И не бихме искали никога да ги използваме“, заключи Тръмп.

На 29 октомври американският президент обяви решението си да възобнови ядрените изпитания на САЩ. Засега нито Тръмп, нито представители на неговата администрация са уточнили дали това включва реално детониране на ядрени заряди.
